Navy Completes new Data Center in Charleston, SC

The US Navy and data centers featured in the same article?  You had me at Navy.

The USN/SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic had a ribbon cutting for its new data center in Charleston, SC.  The facility will allow the Navy to consolidate IT functions that are currently performed at over 100 disparate facilities.  This move should improve overall reliability and decrease maintenance and operations costs.   

Here are some of the facility’s key statistics:

  • This Data Center will play a key role in consolidating more than 100 Navy data centers
  • 20,220-square-foot facility on Joint Base Charleston-Weapons Station
  • Construction started Oct. 15, 2010 and was recently completed.
  • Project had a $9.498 million price tag
  • Designed to the LEED silver rating standard.
